The effect of different fertilization doses ( 4 x 60, 4 x 120, and 1 x 480 kg N/ha) on the yield of grasses and their basic chemical composition as well as on the growth efficiency and health of animals fed those grasses was studied. Yield of grass during three following years was higher from the fields fertili_zed 4 x 120 and 1 x 480 kg N/ha, when compared to 4 x 60 kg N/ha. No differences were found between 1 x 480 kg N/ha and 4 x 120 kg N/ha. Growth ·efficiency of the common voles which were fed differently fertilized grasses (for 14 days) did not show significant differences. Feeding of experimental animals for a prolonged 3-month period did not show any changes in their appearance and behaviour but did show some pathological changes in their. organs. The histological analyses of the skeleton muscles, liver, spleen, heart, lung, thyroid, ovary, and testicle were carried out. Most severe changes were found in the liver and kidney.
