Description
During 3 years, a study was made of the effect _of increasing quantities of N fertilization (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 kg/ha/cut) on the yield and mineral content (GP, P, and Mg) of three types of grasses: Coastal Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.), pangola grass (Digitaria decumbens Stent.), and Guinea grass (Panicum maximum Jacq.), by a split random block design having four replications, under dry conditions. In the statistical analysis of dry matter, differences were found between species, N levels, and species x level interrelation. As a result, the best level of application for all species was that of 50 kg/ha/cut, especially for the interaction with Coastal Bermuda grass. As for the mineral content it was observed that protein and Mg increased with the increase of N application with a higher content during the dry period, whereas P decreased also with N application with a lower content during the dry period. For this area Bermuda grass is recommended with a nitrogen dose of no more than 250 kg/ha/year, that is, 50 kg/ha/cut in dry conditions.
