Description
Production from pastures containing white clover is described for the southern region of New Zealand. An outline is given of a selfcontained grazing experiment in which district practice at a high ewe stocking rate is compared with a moderate rate with an induced high lambing percentage. Yields of animal products and pasture utilisation patterns are presented and these demonstrate advantages of fitting animal requirements as closely as possible to pasture production. Yield increases are possible from improved plant varieties and it is suggested that the incorporation of these into efficient animal systems will lead to further productivity increases.
