Description
Experimental results have shown that the cropping area of alfalfa can be extended to suitable locations of the potato growing region. Due to the great heterogeneity of soil conditions, red clover cannot, however, be completely eliminated from the cropping pattern in this area, because alfalfa gives higher dry matter yields than red clover only after three years. Therefore, in a more humid potato growing region with compacted soils it will be more suitable to grow red clover, or mixtures including red clover, at differentiated levels of nitrogen fertilization.
