Description
Pea is one of the main edible beans for the Chinese people. The total output of pea in China is third only to that of soybean and broad bean. In the main producing area, pea is a protein supplement feed for the animals and poultry next to bean meal. However, the planting area was restricted because most of the old varieties have long growing periods. The yield is low, the seed quality is poor, the plant is high, so it is easy to lodge. Therefore we selected and bred new pea varieties with earlymaturing,' high-yielding, low-plant and erect as well as suitable for interplanting with other crops. By use of this new varieties, the multiple crop index and yield per unit area has been increased so the economic effectiveness has been increased as well. Moreover, it can make the soil fertile, so it is more significant for the area where the population is numerous and each people with a little land. In addition, the early maturing variety can be planted continuously in Autumn, Winter and Sprmg m the area where the climate is suitable. And also can be planted in cold moutain area where the frost-free period is short. Early maturity is suitable for the arrangements of the following crops. So the annual total income can be increased. Pea also can be used as a remedy crop for the disaster area.
