Description
Agriculture in Japan has generally consisted in paddy-based small - scale farming. Japan has not had a tradition of largescale grassland farming as have European countries and others. Nevertheless, grassland farming was introduced after World War 2 (Nikki, 1981). Generous technical assistance from FAO had been given to the Japanese government during 1955-1963. Hence, an almost stable forage system was established by 1985, although some problems still remained to be solved. The development of technology over the last 30 years has been amply studied in the literature. A comparison of this with that of Asian countries was made
