Description
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is an important perennial legume in ruminant feeding programs. Mechanical dewatering of alfalfa herbage yields a protein concentrate that contains 8.5 % of the DM and 29 % of the N from the original crop (Collins, 1985). Nonruminants would benefit from an increase in S amino acid concentrations of alfalfa since S amino acids limit utilization of leaf proteins (Byers, 1983). A greenhouse study was conducted to determine the effects ofK and S fertilization on the yield, composition and amino acid concentrations of alfalfa herbage.
