Department Chair: Dr. Douglass Kalika

The breadth and flexibility of chemical and materials engineering (CME) enables graduates to work on some of the most exciting and demanding challenges, such as energy generation and sustainability, environmental protection, medicine and biotechnology, transportation and housing. CME students may pursue a specialized biopharmaceutical track, which offers classes within the College of Pharmacy – one of the top-10 pharmacy schools in the country. CME faculty members often encourage undergraduate students to join them in their research, and in 2017, the department opened fully renovated chemical and materials laboratories.
